Doesn't Your Garden Deserve a Touch of Whimsy?

Spring Cleaning Gardening Style

It has been a very busy past two weeks friends.  I'm finding it a bit challenging to schedule everything I want (or need) to get done since starting my new PT job.   Finding "creative" time is a must since I only recently discovered I actually have a creative bone in my body.   For many, many years I'd convinced myself I wasn't standing in the right line when God was passing out the creativity gene.  Then low and behold, once the kids were grown  and on their own, and I'd gotten out of the corporate rat race I had time for me!!!  Who would have thought?
Last weekend was spent doing some much needed clean up in the garden.  I am so blessed to live in Florida because we can garden year round.  I weeded, pruned, trimmed, transplanted, planted seeds and potted some new plants.  A few more weekends of this and my garden should be worthy of visitors.  I'll share some pics from last spring's garden to give you an idea of what it will look like again when all the spring cleaning work is done.  As you can probably tell, my gardening style leans more to cottage gardens.
Some of my favorites for spring are old-timers like  Hollyhock, Cosmos,  and Foxglove.  I picked up a few of these this weekend from my favorite local nursery.  Now all I need is to find time to install them.
For those of you still waiting for the arrival of spring in your area, I hope this brings you a little inspiration while you wait.  I'd love to know what your favorite plants or flowers are and what you have planned for your gardens this year.
Happy gardening friends!

Spring is in the Air

My how times does fly when you're having fun!  It's hard to believe that a week and a half has passed since my last post.  I guess this new part-time job of mine is taking up more time than I anticipated.
We're gearing up for spring here in Florida as evidenced by all the beautiful plants at the local nurseries.  I popped into one this weekend and couldn't resist getting a few lovelies to brighten up my garden.  We should be past the freezing point here in our area, so I'll am anxious to get outside hopefully this weekend to start sprucing up my garden.
One of the new plants I picked up is this gorgeous new annual, Pericallis.  This plant does well here in central Florida during winter and spring as it's cold hardy down to 35 degrees.  I found it at Lowes.
It comes in several colors and I just love its gorgeous daisy-like flowers and dark green foliage.  I think I might just go out and get a couple more . . .
There is a new plant that I saw online, but I'm not sure if it's available locally.  I'm a nut for anything blue, so you'll understand why I absolutely love this plant.   If anyone knows where I can get one,  please let me know.  It would look so good in my garden!

What are some of your favorite plants?  What new plants do you plan to add to your garden this year?  Don't forget - my garden whimsies will look great in any garden.

It's Been a Great Week!

As I sit here this afternoon waiting for the Super Bowl game to begin, I thought now would be a good time to update my blog.  It's been a busy week and next week will be even busier as I begin a new part-time job.  I just hope it doesn't interfere with my "creative time".   My time now is split between creating my garden totems and watching my beautiful eight month old granddaughter a couple days a week.  And, of course once the weather is better, I'll need to get back out into my garden to get it in shape.
My garden totems have been quite active this week on Etsy treasury listings.  At last count I think I had items in five different treasuries this past week.  That's a record for me!!!    Here they are in case you missed them on my Facebook page.
These treasuries include amazing works by other Etsy artists.  Be sure to check them out.  One of these artists is a new friend of mine - Kyera from Kglass.  Kyera creates and designs unique glass beads and jewelry, personally hand-crafted in the flame and fashioned into wearable art.   Her work is absolutely stunning. These are just a few of her beautiful creations . . .
Kyera has a fun blog, and just today she featured my work in her blog!  I was so honored to be included!!    Check out Kyera's blog and look for me in the "Giddy Gardens"  post.
I am meeting so many amazing Etsy artists through my shop.  I plan to highlight my favorites in future posts.  Stayed tuned to learn who my "favs" are.
Thank you for following my blog.  This is a daily learning process and I'm getting trained by some pretty experienced artist bloggers that I follow.  I hope to keep you entertained so you'll keep coming back.

Fun at Annie's Garden Shed

Winter weather in Florida is very fickle.  One day it's sunny and warm and the next it's downright chilly.  I won't say cold because Floridians don't know what real cold is unless they are a transplant from another part of the country.   After a rainy day yesterday, today started out beautiful, sunny and mild.  Good thing my friend and I set out early for our container garden class as the weather this afternoon is much cooler and very windy.  Wouldn't have been fun as the class was outdoors.  Where else in January can you go to a container garden class and create an awesome container garden?  It's great isn't it!!  Our host was Patti Schaefer, the owner of Annie's Potting Shed.  Patti is an expert on container gardening and gave us some wonderful tips on how to plant the perfect container garden.
Here's my friend Diane with her potted masterpiece that included a miniature lemon cypress, lavender topiary tree, button fern, Christmas fern, ivy, moss, and a rock for a garden fairy to rest on!   Diane's more photogenic than I am so I'm using her picture . . . haha.
Patti is all ready for Valentine's Day and has a couple of my larger garden totems in her holiday display.  Aren't they just perfect for a tea party?  Garden totems are so versatile.  You can display them in your garden, on your deck or tabletop as shown in this photo.  Everyone should have at least one!!
I hope everyone has a beautiful and happy weekend doing whatever it is that makes YOU happy.

Hearts and Flowers for Your Valentine

Valentine's Day is around the corner.    Have you found a gift for your special someone?  Not many women can resist hearts and flowers.  With this piece I have combined both as a beautiful serving tray.  A charming vintage plate with pink flowers is topped by a vintage wine goblet.  At the top is a heart shaped ceramic piece with more flowers.  A unique gift for a mother, sister, friend, or sweetheart.

Sunny in Florida

It's a beautiful sunny day here in Florida.   What a difference a couple days will make weather-wise.  I'm always inspired to create something new when the sun is shining.  I never imagined, however, that my art would be an inspiration to someone else.  Hard to imagine since it wasn't till recently that I found out I actually had a talent for art.
Check out this blog from a fellow garden junker like me.   Debbie's been crafting for many years and stumbled upon some of my garden whimsies.  I am honored that she included me in her blog.
Happy reading  . . . or whatever it is that inspires you today.
Here's a photo of my potting shed for those getting antsy for spring.  I can't wait to get outside and dig in the dirt myself.

Afternoon Garden Tea Party

It's a chilly, rainy day here in Florida.  Thought I'd create an Etsy treasury that would inspire warm, sunny thoughts.  Hope you enjoy my Afternoon Tea Party Treasury.  Tea anyone?

Garden Totem Stake Makes Etsy Treasury List
