Doesn't Your Garden Deserve a Touch of Whimsy?

Holiday Market Show - November 11, 2010

Last week's Holiday Market show was great.  This was my first show and I came away very happy after a long day.  My garden totems were a hit and they received lots of compliments.   The Tampa Garden Club is planning another show in early April and they invited me to come back.  I'm looking forward to doing a Spring show.
Lots of new ideas flowing . . . stayed tuned!!

Found your site via Garden Web. Your created items are lovely. I've not yet done any projects myself, but have been gathering for winter projects when I can't go outside to garden. I love it that you seal them up. What were your garden stakes? I couldn't tell from pics which were stakes or not. One idea why the smaller items sold more is from a book I read years ago about men & women. Women buy a $1 item they don't need, but just because it's on sale. Men pay $3 for a $1 item because they need it. Maybe, because they don't need the glass objects, but want them they pay for the less expensive ones. Always have the more available & they'll buy the lesser ones. Keep making the big ones just for that reason. Our daughter has done a lot of knitting & crochet designing as well as some small sewing projects and when she sold at craft fairs she learned a bit about marketing. Have a 2 for 1 sale or sometimes 3/$xx with a small discount. People will buy in quantity or come back at another hour just to get the discount. I was surprised that even my mom was buying from our daughter just because she had a 3/$xxx sale going on. Mom was telling me about the deal and how she bought 2 and got this one free or something like that. I would have posted on GW, but didn't want to get into the details about selling on the creation forum. I'm in WA state and haven't seen these being sold here.

Hello Corrine. Thanks so much for the wonderful tips and suggestions. I apologize for taking so long to respond to your comments. This past month has been crazy with the holidays and completely orders for holiday gifts. It's a great problem to have!!! The garden stakes are the ones with the upturned bud vases. If you look at the photo gallery you'll see the garden stakes sitting on my bench. The regular totems are up to 25" tall and have a large base to keep them stable. What winter projects do you have planned? Here in Florida we're fortunate to have mild weather year round (except for the past week when it was freezing at night for several days). This allows me to work on my projects all year. Good luck with your projects and I hope to see them on GW website. Best wishes for a very Happy New Year to you and your family. Warm regards, Mary
